PROTEST AGAINST HOMOPHOBIC HATE CRIME NEAR COLUMBIA

FRIDAY JANUARY 26th, 9:45pm
101st and Broadway
outside Dive Bar
Take 1,2, or 3 to 96th street stop

Last Friday night (the 19th) me and my friends went out for some drinks at a place called Dive Bar on the Upper West Side. After me and my other friend left, the three of my female friends stayed behind. Apparently after we left two of them went to the bathroom together. On the way to the bathroom they were attacked by a group of men calling them Dykes and telling them they weren’t allowed in the bathroom together. One of them was held down by force and harrased, while the other was taken into the bathroom. In the bathroom one of the men choked my friend and told her that he would kill her and threatened her life. After pleading with them my friends were finally let go. Everyone in the bar saw this and someone called the police. The bartenders didn’t do anything only apologized, and the men weren’t even kicked out of the bar.

When the police came they accused my friends of being too rowdy and of being drunk and that nothing actually happened. When my friends pleaded with them the cops just ignored.

Neither the bartenders nor the cops DID ANYTHING!!!!
We all need to stand up to this criminal neglect and say no to this violent homophobia and sexism! please join us!!!
