Join a Nationwide Effort to Demand Full Federal Equality!
Harvey Milk Day of Action
May 22, 2010 @ 12 p.m.
LGBT Community Center
208 W. 13th Street
New York, NY 10011
On May 22, cities all across America will pay respects to Harvey Milk on his birthday. Remembering Harvey’s numerous achievements in a push for LGBT equality, thousands of activists, allies and community members are organizing local actions to demand full federal equality. International Week Against Homophobia anchors the event. Join the march for full equality in NYC today!
The march begins at the LGBT Center in Manhattan with rallies along the way, including Washington Square Park, St. Vincent’s Hospital, Marriage Bureau, and finally ending at City Hall. See the full route here.
The aim is to highlight the many ways that LGBTQI people are oppressed, targeted and exploited in society. From hate crimes to discrimination. In the words of Harvey Milk, “We don’t want special rights, we want equal rights!”
How You Can Help
There are several costs associated with organizing demonstrations in New York City, including permit fees! This event is coordinated by unpaid volunteers. Please help by making a small donation! No amount is too small. Every little bit counts!
Join the planning committee! We are looking for motivated individuals who don’t mind rolling up their sleeves and helping make REAL change in our community! Check out the calendar page for a list of events where we currently need help. Visit the volunteer page for information about joining the planning committee.
We need to make a HUGE impact on Saturday, May 22. The biggest way we can do that is to assemble as many supporters as possible. Bring your signage, charisma and voice on Saturday, May 22 and be prepared to make some noise! RSVP for the event on our Facebook page!
